Mission

EASO seeks to help ensure that expertise and the most up-to-date knowledge in the field of cancer prevention and cure is rapidly spread throughout the Arab World, by developing a web of scientific relationships and collaborations between cancer specialists in European and Arab countries.

A large proportion of cancer-related deaths are linked to delays or mistakes in diagnosis. EASO seeks to contribute to ensuring that international research in oncology is speedily brought to the attention of the medical world, including family doctors, specialists in all medical fields, nurses as well as hospital managers and administrators.

Countries and communities vary in the prevalence of different cancers, and in their culture and their economic conditions. EASO seeks to tune its activities to the specific characteristics and priorities of each of the countries involved.

A tailored approach
Investing in training and prevention can significantly reduce mortality from cancer.

Training programmes and strategies for prevention and treatment are most effective when tailored to the local social, cultural and economic conditions and when they take into account which cancers and most prevalent (liver, bladder and childhood cancers for instance, are most common in the Arab word than in Europe).

Investing in research is important to find out what sort of training programmes and prevention and treatment strategies are most effective in each country.

Core activities

- Masterclasses
These are one-week, full-immersion courses, where participants and faculty have direct contact with each other. Masterclasses are conducted by a faculty of international experts, in English. They are designed for those who are defining and orienting their professional careers.

- Courses and seminars
These offer an opportunity for more experienced oncologists to learn about state-of-the-art treatment in a particular medical area from experts in that field. They are also free and conducted in English.

- Exchange of experience
EASO facilitates the sharing of experience at the international level in areas such as early detection, telemedicine, organising high-quality cancer services, national cancer registries, and developing national protocols and guidelines.

- Co-research
Joint research initiatives are planned in fields to be agreed
